Empowering Philly youth for a brighter future with higher expectations.

Supporting Philadelphia’s youth with violence prevention and conflict resolution through travel.

For the purposes of personal and collective liberation, “Philly in Paris: Youth Travel Abroad” was formed and created as a hands-on and innovative solution to the violence epidemic that Philly youth face. Led by various organizations and individuals, our goal is to take Philly’s youth on global excursions, beginning with Paris, to increase their exposure to the world and the world’s exposure to them. We believe in trauma-sensitive travel abroad as a creative violence-prevention and conflict resolution strategy.

Today’s youth are largely visual learners who aspire to be what they experience. What greater lesson to share with them than to have them actualize themselves in a new thriving environment? We believe that travel can be a life-changing experience that provides more than just a new cultural perspective, but that it can also provide a foundation for a brighter future and a better life.

Our Paris Excursion

Our one-week itinerary includes cultural exposures such as Black literary & other history tours, leadership development activities, visits to museums and colleges, and even a night cruise on the famous Seine River.

Pre-Paris Programming

In the months leading up to the Paris trip, the cohort will be provided with an introduction to independent travel, monthly advisory sessions on expectations for travel abroad, and a variety of activities to expose and prepare them for their journey.

Youth Support

Throughout this journey, the social and emotional health of the cohort will be closely monitored and supported by team members with varying backgrounds in behavioral health. In addition the cohort will be supported and led by individuals with similar life experiences.

I met a lot of people in Europe. I even encountered myself. -James Baldwin
